Fun Day

Today was so much fun. First, we spent a few hours at Cahokia. What an fantastic place. The Interpretive Center was very impressive and well-done. We walked around the mounds and then to the top of Monks Mound, where the the city of St. Louis was visible. From there we also enjoyed looking out over the vast expanse of what was the community of Cahokia and tried to imagine what it was like so long ago.

Here we are at the top of Monks Mound:

We headed into the city for a Vietnamese lunch (very good, but Tram's is better!). After lunch we went to see the famous Gateway Arch. Yikes, it's really high. And you ride up in this teeny-weeny enclosed car thing with no windows that clicks and shifts as it heads up the side of the arch. It was amazing being at the top of that thing, looking out over the city and the beautiful Mississippi River. But let me tell you, I couldn't wait to get back down.

Brad and the kids in that tiny car thing. Doesn't it resemble the interior of a large washing machine with seats?

My face would look just like Julian's if I was in that washing machine thing!

Yikes is right! I remember going up in that thing with the girls. Gorgeous view, but I couldn't keep from thinking about all that AIR under us.

being stuffed into that circle-thing would be no less than horrific.

i wonder if everyone who's ever been to Monks Mound has this same picture of themselves? I know Ray and I do. Amy i would like to remind you that this is the place where i took off my shoe and made a big footprint in the dirt then took a picture of it and showed it to you and told you it was a real Indian footprint and you believed me.

Mindy - that is an awesome story and that is why blogs are great because you can share stories like that!
